Dramatic Last Over as Kagiso Rabada and David Miller guided South Africa to a victory

1st Innings – Sri Lanka puts 142 Runs on the board

Early setback for Sri Lanka as Kusal Perera is bowled out by Anrich Nortje, they were 20/1 in 3.5 overs.

Then a crucial 41 Run Stand was made between Pathum Nissanka & Charith Asalanka. However, a run-out led to the dismissal of Asalanka – 21 Runs (off 14 balls), they were 61/2 (8.5 overs).

However, two more wickets fall as Tabraiz Shamsi dismissed both Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Avishka Fernando similarly – caught & bowled by Tabraiz Shamsi. With that, Sri Lanka was at 77/4 (11.4 overs).

Again, it’s Tabraiz Shamsi as he picked the wicket of Wanindu Hasaranga. Hasaranga had hit it big but finds Aiden Markram who takes a good diving catch. Sri Lanka was 91/5 in 13.4 overs.

In the Death overs, 5 more wickets fell for Sri Lanka. From which Dwaine Pretorius picked 3. The opener Pathum Nissanka tried to stay till the end, departed playing a fine inning of 72 Runs (off 58 balls). However, all Sri Lankan batsmen were dismissed at 142 (20 overs).

2nd Innings – South Africa’s Target is 143 Runs

Dushmantha Chameera strikes for Sri Lanka as he picked 2 Wickets in an over, sending back the openers Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock back to the pavilion. With that, South Africa was 26/2 in 3.4 overs.

However, an excellent fielding effort by Sri Lankan Skipper Dasun Shanaka – a direct hit to dismiss Rassie van der Dussen – 16 (off 11 balls) as there was a mix-up with Temba Bavuma. South Africa was at 49/3 (7.6 overs).

Wanindu Hasaranga gives Sri Lanka the wicket they needed, as a crucial partnership was building, he bowled out Aiden Markram. With that, the 47 Run Stand between Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma came to an end. At this stage, South Africa was 96/4 (14.6 overs).

Again, it’s Hasaranga who provides Sri Lanka with two more wickets and finishes his hat-trick. Sending back South Africa’s Captain Temba Bavuma on 46 (off 46) and Dwaine Pretorius on a duck. With this, it seems difficult for South Africa as they were 112/6 (17.2 overs).

For South Africa – 15 Runs were needed from the last 6 balls. A single taken by Kagiso Rabada puts David Miller on strike. Miller then hits two sixes. As a result, 2 runs were needed from 3 balls – a single was taken. In the last ball, just 1 run was needed and Kagiso Rabada hits a boundary –  four. Kagiso Rabada 13* (off 7 balls) and David Miller 23*(off 13 balls) guided South Africa to a victory.

As a result, South Africa won the match by 4 Wickets. With that, South Africa finished their innings at 146/6 (19.5 overs). Hence, the Player of the Match was given to Tabraiz Shamsi for his bowling spell of 3/17.
