2024 Finlandia Trophy: The ongoing figure skating season is nearing its culmination and skaters are battling out in the last hours to secure their spots in the Grand Prix Final, which takes place in France in December.

Only the top six in each of the four events qualify for the finale in Grenoble, so a podium finish is prerequisite for the favourites to make it to the Grand Prix Final, with only the Cup of China remaining.

2024 Finlandia Trophy: Kagiyama Yuma Headlines The Field

Fresh off  winning the NHK Trophy, Olympic silver medallist Kagiyama Yuma will look for his second straight win this week in Finland. He could take the opportunity to crack the 300-total-point, replicating his performance past weekend.

Olympic silver medallist Kagiyama will compete in the 2024 Finlandia Trophy, which runs from 15–17 November at the Helsinki Ice Hall in the Finnish capital, and is favoured to improve on his score from the NHK Trophy where he fell during his free skate.

The Japanese will face challenges in the men’s event from France’s Kévin Aymoz, who was runner-up at Skate America in the season’s opening Grand Prix event. Daniel Grassl, who finished second to Kagiyama in Tokyo, is another contender for the podium T 2024 Finlandia Trophy. 

South Korea’s Cha Junhwan, who finished third at Skate Canada International, is the other podium finisher from this season to feature in Finland.

In the women’s event, Japanese skaters Yoshida Hana and Matsuike Rino headline a field. They will have a fair chance to finish on top with the withdrawals of Belgium’s Loena Hendrickx and USA’s Isabeau Levito.

In the pairs competition, Canadian world champions Deanna Stellato-Dudek/Maxime Deschamps and Italy’s Rebecca Ghilardi/Filippo Ambrosini will seek to book their Grand Prix Final berth with a second podium finish of the season, 

Meanwhile, in ice dance, the duo of Piper Gilles/Paul Poirier of Canada and Great Britain’s pair Lilah Fear/Lewis Gibson will compete for the second wins of the year. They won the Skate Canada International and Skate America respectively.
