The Paris Olympics 2024 is set to begin from July 26 to August 11. The big names of the sporting world are set to take part in the Summer Games and are gearing up for the showpiece event.

Indian athletes, too, are preparing themselves for the Paris challenge that is round the corner. However, there are few sportspersons from India who would be absent from the Paris Olympics 2024.

Here are the prominent Indian athletes who would be appearing at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Ravi Dahiya – Wrestling

Ravi Dahiya who won a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be giving the Paris Olympics 2024 a miss. Dahiya will not be on the flight to Paris for the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI)’s decision to not hold a final trial.

The WFI confirmed that the six wrestlers who secured a quota by winning the earlier trials in March 2024 would represent India at the Paris Olympics.

Murali Sreeshankar – Athletics

M. Sreeshankar booked himself a spot for the Paris Olympics by winning silver at the Asian Championships in Bangkok . He achieved a leap of 8.37m, exceeding the Olympic entry standard of 8.27m on 15 July.

However, the 25-year old silver medallist at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, was compelled to pull out of the competition for the entire season, including the Paris 2024 Olympics, due to a knee injury he suffered during training.

Bhavani Devi – Fencing

Bhavani Devi, who scripted history as the first Indian fencer at 2020 Tokyo Olympics will not feature at the Paris Olympics 2024. This is because the Indian fencing team failed to secure any quota for the summer event at the Asia Oceania Zonal Qualifiers held in Fujairah, UAE.

Bhavani Devi, who was seeded highest in the women’s sabre event at the Fujairah competition, lost the semi-finals to 15-12 to Chu Wing Kiu of Hong Kong China. Only the winners of each event secured Olympic quotas to represent their respective countries.

Mixed Doubles Table-Tennis Team

India’s Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Manika Batra will not feature at the Paris Olympics 2024 after they failed to seal a quota for Paris 2024 at the World Mixed Doubles Table Tennis Olympic Qualification tournament in Havirov, Czechia.

The Indian duo of Gnanasekaran and Batra suffered a 4-1 defeat (11-9, 11-9, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8) in the quarter-finals which watered down their Paris Olympics dream.

Women’s Hockey Team

The Indian women’s hockey team received a lot of appreciation when it finished fourth at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Although they could not bag a medal, their upgraded performance and brilliant show made the whole nation proud.

The hopes of winning an Olympic medal, however, dealt a blow after they failed to qualify for Paris Olympics 2024 by losing the third-fourth classification match against Japan during the FIH Women’s Qualifier in Ranchi in January.  They needed a win over Japan to book an Olympic berth but went down 1-0 in the match.
