5 Sri Lankan players refuses tour contracts ahead of India tour of Sri Lanka
The CEO of the SLC Ashley de Silva has revealed that 5 Sri Lankan players have shown their disagreement to sign contacts ahead of the limited-overs series against India. This can be due to a standstill situation between the board and the players on basis of national contracts.
The issue has been raised because they are at present playing in England without having a contract. This clearly shows the indication there is no mutual agreement between the board and players ahead of the England limited-overs tour.
The Player’s namely Vishwa Fernando, Lasith Embuldeniya, Lahiru Kumara, Ashen Bandara, and Kasun Rajitha were not among the squad that toured England. Interestingly these were among the 24 players who have been offered the national contracts but seemed to have left out of one month “residential camp” that began on 25th June. The limited over series against India will start in Colombo on 13th July.
It was said to them that until that they get a solution for the national contract issue they have been asked to sign a contract to make them available for this Indian limited-overs series. So, they can get into the bubble, meanwhile, they try to find a possible resolution for this concern.
The SEO of Sri Lankan Cricket said that these players show strong negligence to sign the contract for this India tour of Sri Lanka, so they have been left out of the residential camps. They seemed to have not joined the bubble in Dambulla or Colombo.
Only when they are offered a tour contract, they are eligible to be considered for national selection and this Indian tour. The contract is necessary to play this Indian series, so these were among the 24 players offered with national contracts.
They only are considered for the Indian only if we sign the agreement before the start of the training session, they can consider said Ashley de Silva SLC CEO. The Limited overs series comprise of 3 ODI and 3 T 20., all the matches will be held in Colombo.
