The veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was utilized as a water boy in the match of KKR against RR in IPL 2021. Former Indian spinner was  bought for Rs 2 crore at this year’s auction.

Harbhajan Singh was released by Chennai Super Kings in the lead-up to the auction after he spent 3 years with MS Dhoni’s men. Eyebrows were raised when Harbhajan set himself a base price of Rs 2 crore after having skipped IPL 2020 due to personal reasons.

Harbhajan had not played competitive cricket since the IPL 2019 final but he stressed that there is so much cricket left in him in the lead up to the auction. KKR bought as many as 8 players at the IPL auction but Shakib Al Hasan was the only player apart from Harbhajan to be picked up for more than Rs 1 crore.

Harbhajan Singh, 40, is not getting any younger but the veteran off-spinner has shown he can deliver with the ball despite not playing competitive cricket throughout the year. As recently as 2019, Harbhajan picked up 16 wickets in 11 matches, bowling primarily in the powerplay for MS Dhoni’s CSK. The off-spinner played a key role in helping CSK reach the final as he consistently picked up wickets in the powerplay.
