A last minute goal crashes England U-21 team’s dreams
A last-minute injury-time goal by the Croatia U-21 team saw England U-21, knocked out of the European Under 21 Championship group last night.
Though England won the match for them to proceed to the next round they had to win by a clear 2 goal margin, an objective that they failed to achieve.
For the three-lions side, a penalty from Eberechi Eze and a fine strike from Curtis Jones saw them taking a lead on Croatia but Domagoj Bradaric’s late stunner secured Croatia’s quarter-final progression even though the Croatian side ended up losing the game.
The qualification criteria came down to Goal Difference since 3 teams of the group had the same points in their 4 games.
Having been unremarkable so far, England began amazingly and started to lead the pack and took the lead within 12 minutes from a penalty scored by Eberechi Eze which was greatly protested by the Croatian side.
In the end, the game saw the Croatian side overcoming the three lions side and making it past the group stages.
