AFC Asian Cup Women’s qualifier in India suspended

The move comes as a result of rising Covid cases in India.

The qualifiers of the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup that were to be held in India stand suspended until further notice, the Asian Football Confederation said in a statement earlier today.
The decision was taken, keeping in mind the rising Covid cases and deaths in India.

“Thinking about the current difficulties and problems, the AFC thinks the deferment of the qualifiers was necessary because of rising COVID-19 cases in the host country.”

“We need to think about well being of all the partners involved,” AFC said.

Furthermore, they stated that plans for the new arrangement will be presented to the public and to the teams soon.

The statement also read that qualifying rounds of all the other groups will proceed as usual and there will be no further delays.

The AFC cup main tournament will take place from January 6th next year.
