Alphonso Davies’ season is over with an ACL

Alphonso Davies’ season is over with an ACL as he suffered a blow in the 12th minute of the game against the United States in Sunday’s CONCACAF Nations League third-place game. The Bayern Munich star was “pressured” to play even though he wasn’t totally healthy, according to his agent, who also critiqued the way Canada officials treated him once it was revealed that he had ruptured his ACL.

Phonzy, who recently had extended his contract with Bayern Munich till 2030 is not set to miss at least this season and will be a big miss for the Bavarians as they will miss the Canadian star in the most important phase of the season. His darting runs from the left flank, his speed and his courageous defending will be sorely missed by the Bavarians who will be looking at worthy replacements. Besides, it is a big blow for Canada’s football as their Captain is set to miss the remainder of the season due to an ACL.

Bayern Munich revealed Wednesday that Davies suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, forcing the player to undergo surgery and stay off the pitch for several months.

Alphonso Davies’ agent Nedal Huoseh said in a statement

“I am very disappointed. Alphonso was not 100 percent after the Mexico game [in the semifinals] and it was planned that he was not going to start against the USA,” Davies’ agent Nedal Huoseh said in a statement.

“On Saturday night, the expectation was he would not be in the XI. As a captain, I feel he was pressured to start the game by the coach. Alphonso is not the kind of guy to say no in those moments. He ended up playing and look what happened. Canada Soccer needs to do a better job managing these players, in my opinion. Alphonso is down and obviously really disappointed about this injury sustained while playing football. Thankfully, he is in wonderful hands with a world class group at Bayern who will take great care of him. He is expected to have the surgery within the next 24 hours.”
