Aryna Sabalenka Named WTA Player Of The Year 2024
Aryna Sabalenka finished the season unbeaten in hard court majors, after withdrawing from Wimbledon with a shoulder injury.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the WTA Player of the Year after securing four titles in 2024. This is the first time Aryna Sabalenka won the title after an outstanding year on the court.
Sabalenka beat Iga Swiatek in the title run, with the Pole having won the honours in the previous in 2022 and 2023.
The Belarusian started the year defending the Australian Open beating Zheng Qinwen in January before bagging the US Open in September – her third Grand Slam singles triumph.
The 26-year-old went on to win the championship at the Cincinnati Open in August and the Wuhan Open in October, becoming the first woman to win the event three times.
In October she took the world number one spot, ending Iga Swiatek’s 11-month stay at the summit. Aryna Sabalenka finished the season with 9,416 points to the Pole’s 8,295.

The Belarusian finished the season with a 56-14 win-loss record. In all, she has won 18 out of 19 grand slam matches since January, for a winning percentage of 94.7%.
This is the highest grand slam score over a calendar year since Serena Williams in 2015 among players who have played at least 10 matches.
The winners are voted for by the international tennis media.
Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini were named as the Doubles Team of the Year after winning WTA 1000 titles firstly on home soil at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia and then the China Open in addition to the WTA 500 Upper Austria Ladies Linz.
They made it to their first grand slam final together at Roland-Garros before finishing off a memorable summer by winning the gold medal in doubles at the Paris Olympics.
Emma Navarro won the Most Improved Player of the Year award while Lulu Sun was named Newcomer of the Year and Paula Badosa bagged the Comeback Player of the Year award.
