England Receivesa Major Boost Ahead of Ashes 2025-26: The England National Cricket Team is set to get a big lift before the Ashes 2025–26 against Australia, with the opening Test starting in Perth on Friday, November 21.
In great news for the visitors, fast bowler Mark Wood returned to full intensity on Tuesday, steaming in at top speed during England’s practice session at Perth Stadium.
This was Wood’s first strong outing since he missed a practice match because of a hamstring concern. The issue caused some worry as it came during his comeback from knee surgery earlier this year in March.
Ashes 2025-26: Mark Wood Fires Up England Camp
Thankfully for England, medical scans gave Wood the all-clear, and his latest training session showed he is back to hitting serious pace. Teammates noted that his speed was sharp enough to make them uncomfortable, instantly lifting the energy in the camp.
Jamie Smith shared his experience, saying, “He was quick enough; I can tell you that from facing him. He’s bowling at a very good pace, and it’s obviously great preparation for what we’ve got in store here.”
With both Mark Wood and Jofra Archer available, England suddenly have two of the world’s fastest bowlers ready to unleash. If both are picked for the Perth Test, they could be a major challenge for Australia on a pitch known for helping quicks for decades.
Even Josh Tongue sounded upbeat about the group’s potential. He said, “I feel our bowling group has a good chance of getting 20 wickets in the game.”
Ashes 2025-26: Australia loses Cummins and Hazlewood but Gain Cameron Green
On the other side, Australia are dealing with their own challenges. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood have both been ruled out of the series opener due to injuries, leaving a big gap in their bowling attack.
However, the hosts have something to cheer about with Cameron Green fully ready to bowl again. For the first time since March 2024, the all-rounder is back to full speed after recovering from back surgery.
Green recently bowled 16 overs in a domestic game for Western Australia as part of a careful build-up. Now, he feels ready to contribute with both bat and ball.
He explained his preparation, saying, “It’s been a really slow build-up. Probably would prefer a few more competitive overs, but at the same time, it’s a double-edged sword; you get to come into a series so fresh. When you get into test cricket, there’s no need for restrictions. I’d be happy to put my hand up whenever.”
Ashes 2025-26 Schedule
The highly anticipated Ashes series will begin with the Perth Test from November 21 to 25. After that comes a day-night match at the Gabba starting December 4. The remaining three Tests will be played in Adelaide, Melbourne, and finally Sydney.
