Asia Cup is an ODI tournament played among Asian nations. The tournament is managed by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The continental tournament returns once again on the 31st of August. This Asia Cup holds a lot of importance with the ODI World Cup scheduled to take place soon after it ends. Here is a look at the top 10 run scorers of the Asia Cup.

Sanath Jayasuriya: 1220 runs

Sanath Jayasuriya is a legend of Sri Lankan cricket. Interestingly, he was a bowler who could bat at the beginning of his career. Before becoming a dashing opener we all know, he had various batting stints in the middle order. The Sri Lankan all-rounder scored 1,220 runs in the Asia Cup. He was part of a very dominant Sri Lankan side and scored runs at a very quick pace at the top of the order. He even has the record for the most centuries in the Asia Cup. Along with three half-centuries, he scored six centuries.

Kumar Sangakkara: 1075 runs

Another Sri Lankan appears on the list for the most runs scored in the Asia Cup. Kumar Sangakkara scored 1075 runs at an average of 48.86 with a strike rate of 84.51. He was part of the Sri Lankan side that won the Asia Cup in 2004, 2008 and 2014. The 2014 Asia Cup was his last Asia Cup.

Sachin Tendulkar: 971 runs

It is highly unlikely that any list of batting records will be created without mentioning Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar has the highest runs for an Indian in the Asia Cup. The God of Cricket scored 971 runs at an average of 51.10 at a strike rate of 85.47. He was part of the Indian squad that won the tournament in 1990-91, 1995 and 2010. His last Asia Cup was in 2012.

Shoaib Malik: 786 runs

Shoaib Malik ranks 4th in the list of most runs scored in the continental tournament. In just 17 matches the all-rounder from Pakistan has 786 runs. He is the only player from Pakistan to feature on this list. He scored three centuries in Asia Cup and has a batting average of a whopping 65.50. His batting strike rate was also quite high at 90.65. The Pakistani team has won the competition twice and he was part of both the wins in 2000 and 2012.

Rohit Sharma: 745 runs

The 5th highest run scorer in the Asia Cup is Rohit Sharma with 745 runs to his name. His batting average in the tournament is 46.56 and his strike rate is 85. The Hitman will have a chance to add more runs to his tally with the Asia Cup in 2023. He might be able to overtake Shoaib Malik by the end of the tournament.

Arjuna Ranatunga: 741 runs

Arjuna Ranatunga was a fearless captain of a strong Sri Lankan side. Ranatunga scored 741 runs in the tournament. He was part of the squad that won the Asia Cup in 1986 (as a player) and in 1997 (as a captain). In both tournaments, he scored the most runs and won the player of the series.

Mushfiqur Rahim: 699 runs

Mushfiqur Rahim has the most runs for a Bangladesh player. In 21 matches, he scored 699 runs and will have the chance to add more runs to his tally in the upcoming Asia Cup.

Mahela Jayawardene: 674 runs

Mahela Jayawardene has scored 674 runs in 28 matches. His batting average was 29.30 and his strike rate was 87.64.

MS Dhoni: 648 runs

The legendary Indian captain is in the 9th position and has scored 648 runs. MSD has scored 648 runs at an average of 64.80 and a strike rate of 87.68.

Aravinda de Silva: 645 runs

Aravinda de Silva in 24 matches scored 645 runs. His average was 64.80 and 87.68.
