Asian Games: Indian team clinches gold by defeating Japan 5-1
India wins yet another gold medal at the Asian Games 2022 by defeating Japan in the finals of the Men’s Hockey tournament. Here is a recap of the match.

Another gold medal has been added to the Indian medal tally at the Asian Games as the Men’s Hockey team won the final match by defeating Japan with a 5-1 margin. With this medal, India has added another gold to its most successful campaign at the Asian Games. This Asian Games was already the most successful campaign for India but with this gold medal the men’s hockey team has made sure that the Indian team will cross their 100 medal mark.

Skipper, Harmanpreet Singh led from the front scoring two of the five goals in the match. Manpreet Singh opened the Indian account with a goal in the 25th minute. Harmanpreet scored his first goal of the match in the 32nd minute. Just four minutes later Amit Rohidas scored once again to make the scoreline 3-0. Abhishek scored with a powerful finish from the edge of the striking circle beating the Japanese keeper. In a flurry of penalty corners from Japan, they finally opened their account as Seren Tanaka scored in the 54th minute. Japan’s joy and excitement were short-lived as skipper Harmanpreet scored once again to make the scoreline 5-1.

With this medal, the Indian Men’s team secured a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics. For the first time in 41 years, the Indian team now holds an Olympic medal, an Asian Games medal and a Commonwealth medal.

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath made a tweet acknowledging the hard work of the Indian team. In his tweet, Yogi said, “We are proud of you.”

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) also made a tweet in congratulating the Indian team on winning the gold medal as well as securing the Paris Olympic quota.
