Assam govt. unveils BAI’s National Centre of Excellence

The Assam Government joined hands with the Badminton Association of India (BAI) to unveil the National Centre of Excellence.

The opening of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) National Centre of Excellence will mark the realisation of the Assam government’s unwavering commitment to advancing sports excellence. This historic occasion took place at the Amingaon Indoor Stadium in Guwahati on August 11.

The upcoming Centre will be located inside the cutting-edge Amingaon Indoor Stadium and is expected to revolutionise badminton training and talent development. This state-of-the-art facility will house numerous top-notch amenities, seasoned national and international coaches, and a first-rate support infrastructure.

At the Center’s inauguration, which is the result of a partnership between the Assam Government and BAI, notable members of India’s prestigious badminton community graced the event with their presence. The ceremony will herald the establishment of a centre where prospective sportsmen may hone their abilities under professional direction, raising a new wave of elite badminton players.

The Sports and Youth Welfare Department of Assam will expertly monitor the administrative and operational duties of the Centre, while the Badminton Association of India will competently manage the technical components.

National Center Of Excellence

The BAI National Centre of Excellence, which is remarkable in scope and ambition, will house an incredible 24 badminton courts and have seating for about 5,000 spectators. This enormous project brings together a number of courts under one roof and is meant to become India’s biggest badminton centre.

The felicitation of the victorious Indian men’s badminton team, champions of the 2022 Thomas Cup, would be a historic highlight of the opening. The Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, will be present as the BAI president bestows this honour.

Beyond its immediate effects, the Centre of Excellence will diligently identify and develop grassroots local and national talent in order to position them for bright careers in the badminton industry.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the upcoming partnership between the Assam government and the Badminton Association of India earlier this month. The National Centre of Excellence for Badminton in Assam would be established by a memorandum of understanding (MoU), with an initial duration of ten years and options for an additional ten years. The government’s goal of making Assam a national athletic powerhouse is supported by this project.
