IPL 2026 Auction: Virandeep Singh has just earned a big moment in cricket history. The Malaysian batting all-rounder has been shortlisted for the IPL 2026 mini-auction, making him the first player from an Associate nation to feature in this year’s list.
Virandeep Singh’s base price is INR 30 lakh, but what makes him stand out is not just his presence in the auction. It is the years of steady performances and growth that have brought him here, ready for the world stage.
Who is Virandeep Singh?
Virandeep Singh is one of Malaysia’s most successful cricketers today and currently leads the national team. Born on March 23, 1999, in Kuala Lumpur, he is a right-handed batsman who also bowls slow left-arm orthodox. His calm personality reflects both his Malaysian upbringing and his Indian heritage, shaping him into a grounded yet ambitious player.
The Youngest to Represent Malaysia
Cricket entered Virandeep’s life early. He began playing in school and by the age of ten was already training at the Royal Selangor Club. His journey moved quickly from there. He played for Malaysia U-16 at just 13, U-19 at 14, and then made history at 15 when he became the youngest Malaysian to play international cricket. His T20I debut came against Thailand, and at only 20 years and 190 days old, he became the youngest male cricketer to captain a T20I side.
Ahead of Virat Kohli, How Did That Happen
One of Virandeep’s most impressive achievements came when he became the first male cricketer to score 3,000 runs and take 100 wickets in T20 Internationals. This rare double placed him among elite all-rounders. He also holds the record for the most Player of the Match awards in T20Is with 22, ahead of big names like Sikandar Raza and Virat Kohli.
By late 2025, he had scored 3,115 runs in 108 T20Is at an average of 37.53, becoming Malaysia’s highest run-scorer. His top score remains an unbeaten 116 against Indonesia in 2023. With the ball, he has 108 wickets in T20Is, highlighted by a brilliant spell of 4 for 5 against Mongolia in 2024, bowled at a tidy economy of 5.72.
Virandeep Singh’s Journey in Franchise Cricket
His growth has not been limited to international cricket. Virandeep has played in multiple T20 leagues, including for the Chitwan Tigers in Nepal, the Surrey Jaguars in Global T20 Canada, and the Sharjah Warriors in the ILT20. Now, he will step into the IPL auction room for 2026, entering as the only player from Associate nations with a base price of INR 30 lakh.
For him, the IPL is bigger than a personal dream. He hopes his presence can help bring Malaysian cricket into global conversations and show that talent from Associate nations deserves a place among the best.
