Australia’s key players for the 2024 T20 World Cup

After winning the ODI World Cup last year, Australia’s eyes will be on winning the T20 World Cup to be held in June this year. Australia has made some big changes this time, instead of Cummins, Mitchell Marsh will be the captain of Australia.

  • Mitchell Marsh (C)

Along with his role as the team captain for this T20 World Cup, he is considered one of the top all-around cricketers in the world. In terms of his statistics, he has participated in 176 T20 matches so far and has amassed 4228 runs with a strike rate of 132. He bowls quickly as well. In all of his T20 encounters, he has claimed 85 wickets at an economy of just 8.44.

  • Travis Head

Currently one of the game’s fiercest hitters, he has instilled fear in several bowlers. His incredible batting performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) have many teams talking. Travis Head‘s batting altered the nature of powerplay overs in Twenty20 cricket. He has a strike rate of 211 and has scored 338 runs in 8 games so far.

  • Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins is currently captaining the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the IPL. He is not the captain of the T20 World Cup this time, but his place in the team is fixed. With his experience, he can help Marsh a lot. Till now, he has played 52 T20 matches, in which he has taken 55 wickets.

  • Glenn Maxwell

Australia will greatly benefit from Maxwell entering the game in the middle order and making runs quickly for the team. He is not in a specific form for the IPL, but he may be at any point. Maxwell has so far played 106 T20 international games, during which he has amassed 2468 runs at a strike rate of 155 with 5 centuries.

  • Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc, one of the best bowlers in Australia, is currently playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL. His performance is not anything special this season, but if we talk about his international T20 career, he has taken 74 wickets in 60 matches with an economy of 7.68.

And what can Australia expect from other players?

  • David Warner

This could be David Warner’s final World Cup as a player, having spent many years scoring runs for the Australian squad. The group expects a strong start from him. Although Warner is presently having trouble with his poor form in the IPL, his supporters are hoping that he will improve by the tournament’s end. In 103 international T20 matches, Warner has amassed 3099 runs at a strike rate of 139, with 26 half-centuries and one century.

  • Matthew Wade

In the final over, Matthew Wade, the star of the Australian team that won its first T20 World Cup trophy in 2021, hit three consecutive sixes to send the team into victory. The same expectations will be set for him this time, namely, to guide his side to the biggest possible win.

  • Marcus Stoinis

Marcus Stoinis, an all-rounder, has made a name for himself in the Australian team by performing well in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). In ten games, Stoinis has scored 316 runs, including 1 century and 2 half-centuries.

  • Tim David

Tim David is going to play his first World Cup match in the T20 World Cup to be held this year. The Australian team will have a lot of expectations from him. Till now, he has scored 1062 runs in his 39 T20 matches.

  • Josh Inglis

In late 2023, the 29-year-old proved his dangerous batsmanship by smashing a century against India. Being a good situational batsman, Josh Inglis can bat at any position in the order. He is currently regarded as one of Australia’s best wicketkeepers and is fairly athletic when it comes to the gloves.
