The first One-Day International between Australia Women vs India Women as part of the multi-format series comprising of 3 ODIs, a One-off D/N Test and 3 T20Is taking place in Queensland went in the favour of the home side as they were victorious.
Australia Women takes a 1-0 lead in the 3 Match ODI Series as they won the 1st ODI against Mithali Raj led India Women Team by 9 wickets at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay on Tuesday. As a result, win 2 points and are in lead in the multi-format series. With this win, they have kept their winning streak alive by winning 25 straight ODIs.
For the India Women Team, Harmanpreet Kaur was ruled out of the first ODI due to a thumb injury.
There was a total of four debutants in today’s match, Hannah Darlington for Australia and Richa Ghosh made her ODI debut whereas Yastika Bhatia and Meghna Singh made their international debut for India.
Having won the toss, the Australian Skipper Meg Lanning chose to bowl first. The visitors lost their opening wickets quickly as the 18-year-old Aussie Darcie Brown took wickets of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana and India were 38/2 (5.1 overs). It was Mithali Raj’s knock of 63 (107) and Richa Ghosh and Jhulan Goswami last-minute 45-Run partnership that put India’s score of 225/8 on board.
India’s Captain Mithali Raj with this knock of her, reached a milestone as she completed 20000 career runs. This marked her 59th ODI half-century and her 8th against Australia.
The Player of the Match was the youngster Darcie Brown for her amazing spell of 4/33.
For the Australian opening batting pair of Rachael Haynes and Alyssa Healy, it was relatively easy to chase down this score as both of them scored 50 Runs. With just the loss of 1 wicket, Australia Women reached the target effectively as they made 227/1 (41 overs).
Meanwhile, Australia’s opening three batters each made 50 Runs. Both openers Rachael Haynes and Alyssa Healy crossed 2000 ODI run today. Rachael Haynes was Not Out for 93 (100) whereas Alyssa Healy made 77 (77). Playing her 200th match for Australia, Captain Meg Lanning made it special by scoring 53 (69) Not Out.
As a result, Australia Women won by 9 wickets against India Women. AUS W leads 1-0 in 3 Match ODI Series against IND W.
Thus, the next match i.e., the 2nd ODI will take place on 24th September, Friday at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay.
