India’s badminton ace Satwiksairaj Rankireddy opened up emotionally after returning from India’s campaign at the Thomas Cup, admitting that frustration got the better of him during a recent interaction. Speaking to the media, Satwik said he often feels isolated due to the lack of backing from his home state of Andhra Pradesh and other sources of support. Reflecting on his comments, the doubles specialist acknowledged that his emotions overflowed in the moment and clarified that such public outbursts are not part of his usual personality.

India wrapped up its Thomas Cup journey with a bronze medal after defeating Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals before suffering a semi-final defeat against France. It marked the country’s second podium finish in the last three editions of the prestigious team tournament.
Satwiksairaj’s shocking remark on social media
After landing back in India, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy triggered widespread discussion on social media through an emotional Instagram story that highlighted the lack of recognition for Indian athletes. His post pointed to the disappointing reality that neither officials from the badminton federation nor government representatives were present at the airport to welcome the Indian squad after its bronze-medal finish in the Thomas Cup in Denmark.
Expressing his disappointment, Satwik wrote that despite spending two intense weeks representing the country, it felt as though nobody was aware of the team’s achievement or interested in what they had accomplished.

Satwiksairaj, who was part of one of the most successful double pairs of Indian badminton history alongside Chirag. He was totally broken over the Indian audience not supporting badminton like they do other sports, Satwik said, “ We were from one of the best teams standing over the airport, and there was not even a single person standing to welcome us. No one asked us who we are, they did not even recognise us, and that broke us.”

He explained that even a small gesture , a congratulatory message, appreciation after a match, or a simple welcome would be appreciated. It would mean a lot to players who spend weeks representing the country on the international stage.
