Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe: The Bangladesh team will return to international cricket in April with a two-match Test series against Zimbabwe. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed the schedule for the series, which will be held after Eid.
Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe: Bangladesh to Face Zimbabwe in Two-Test Series in April
Bangladesh had a tough time in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with their final group-stage match against Pakistan being canceled due to rain. They finished second-last in the standings, ahead of Pakistan, who ended last because of a better net run rate (NRR).
The two-match Test series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will start on April 20 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The second and final Test will be held at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on April 28.
The last Test meeting between these teams was in July 2021, when Bangladesh won by 220 runs in Harare. Zimbabwe’s last Test in Bangladesh was in February 2020, where Bangladesh triumphed by an innings and 106 runs.
The squads for the upcoming Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe series have not been announced yet. It’s worth noting that this series will not be part of the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
On Saturday, a Bangladesh Cricket Board official told Cricbuzz that Dhaka was not considered for the series against Zimbabwe. This decision was made because the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (SBNS) in Dhaka is currently hosting matches of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), the country’s top List A tournament.
“We are regularly having DPL matches in SBNS and so we decided to play the Test series in Chattogram and Sylhet because there you will get wickets that have got enough rest while it wouldn’t have been the case in Dhaka,” said the official.
Why Dhaka Was Excluded from Hosting the Series
The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka has been a key venue for Test matches in Bangladesh. However, the last time it did not host a Test was in March 2024, when Sri Lanka toured Bangladesh for a two-match Test series. Both matches were played in Sylhet and Chattogram instead.
Bangladesh secured their first-ever Test win against Zimbabwe by 226 runs on January 10, 2005, in Chittagong. Bangladesh scored 488 runs in their first innings, with key knocks from Bashar, Saleh, and Rafique. Zimbabwe replied with 312 runs, and Bangladesh set a target of 381 by declaring at 204/9. Zimbabwe was bowled out for 154, and Bangladesh won the match.
