Bayern Munich: German champions wins 3-0 at Barcelona
Muller opened the scoring for the Bavarians in the first half and Lewandowski added two more goals in the second half.
Bayern Munich dominates Barca again
Bayern Munich ran out 3-0 victors over Barcelona at Camp Nou. Thomas Muller opened the scoring in the 34th minute of the game before, Lewandowski added two more goals to the scoreline in the second half.
Both sides started the match with caution and patience, with Barcelona keener not to commit any errors. As time went on, Bayern grew more into the game and forced Barcelona in their area as they did in the 8-2 win over the Spanish side last year.
However, Bayern was finding it hard to open the scoring as Barcelona defended back in numbers. The Catalan club played in a cautious 3-5-2 formation rather than their traditional 4-3-3 formation. Although it helped them defensively ( for a while ), they could not play out of their defense as Bayern played a brilliant high-press. Mostly, Barcelona resorted to a long ball to the new signing Luuk De Jong who started the match. De Jong was used as a target man with Depay making runs off of him. However, this did not help Barcelona build any substantial attack.
Meanwhile, Bayern opened their scoring in the 34th minute of the game. Muller took a shot at the goal from outside the box and the ball went past a helpless Ter Stegen as the ball took a heavy deflection off of Eric Garcia.
Similar to the first half Barcelona tried to play out from the back but failed mostly thanks again to brilliant high press from Bayern. Lewandowski doubled the lead in the 56th minute of the game putting any hopes of a Barca comeback to bed. Jamal Musiala’s shot at goal hit the post and fell kindly for the on-rushing Lewandowski, who had the simple task of poking it in.
Barcelona looked better than they played all game once substitutions were made. Gavi, Alejandro Balde, Coutinho, and Mingueza were all substituted in and they switched to a 4-3-3 formation. Barcelona looked much more comfortable with the ball in the 4-3-3 shape and brought the ball out more often than before.
However, Lewandowski scored his second of the night in the 85th minute to put the game out of reach. Bayern Munich dominated the game and deservedly got their three points.
The German club leads their group with three points in the bag. Meanwhile, Barcelona is at the foot of the table thanks to a draw between Benfica and Dynamo Kyiv.
