BCCI Takes Tough Stance: After India’s poor performance in Test cricket, including a surprising 0-3 loss to New Zealand at home and a 1-3 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, the BCCI reportedly decided to ban players’ wives and families from traveling with them on tours to improve performance.

This decision was made after a review meeting held by the BCCI in Mumbai on Saturday, which was attended by board officials, head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and captain Rohit Sharma.

BCCI Takes Strict Measures After India’s Test Cricket Losses

As per a report in Dainik Jagran, the BCCI has decided to bring back the old rule that was canceled during the Covid-19 pandemic. An official from the BCCI’s Mumbai office told the national daily that players’ wives and family members will not be allowed to travel with the Indian team for the entire duration of the tour.

The BCCI officials believe that having family members stay with players during tours, especially overseas, affects their performance. During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, many cricketers had their wives and families with them in Australia for the entire tour.

Under the new rule, for tournaments or series lasting more than 45 days, a player’s wife or family can stay with them for only 14 days. For shorter tours, the stay will be limited to just seven days.

The BCCI has also introduced a strict rule stating that no player will be allowed to travel separately. This rule was reportedly put in place after board officials noticed that, in recent years, some Indian players have traveled separately instead of going with the team bus.

“Keeping in view the team unity, now all the players will travel by the team bus only. No matter how big a player is, he will not be allowed to travel separately,” read the report.
