A few days ago, the BCCI announced a squad of Indian teams for the upcoming Test and ODI series against Afghanistan, with the Board of Cricket Control of India facing massive backlash for the team selection. The BCCI has chosen a totally different team. They have picked a lot of youngsters in the squad, but they have ignored a player from Jammu & Kashmir, whom we did not expect. Now, former Indian cricketers are criticizing the BCCI brutally for not taking Auqib Nabi in the Indian team. We will take a look at Auqib’s performance in domestic cricket.
Auqib in Ranji Trophy 2025-26
Auqib Nabi has been left out of India’s 15-member squad for the one-off Test against Afghanistan, a decision that has surprised many. The Jammu and Kashmir pacer was in strong form in the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 season, picking up 60 wickets in just 10 matches, yet he still did not find a place in the squad announced earlier this week.
Auqib Nabi’s FC career
Auqib Nabi made his First Class cricket debut in 2020. Since then, he has played 41 matches and picked up 156 wickets, out of which 104 have come only in the last two seasons. In the Ranji Trophy season 2025- 26 he led J&K to their maiden Ranji title and picked up a staggering 60 wickets at an average of 12.56. This happens to be only the third time a pacer has managed to do that, after Dodda Ganesh (62 wickets in 1998-99), and Jaydev Unadkat (67 in 2019-20). And then a year before that, he had taken 44 wickets in just 8 matches, the second most in the season.
Will Auqib be able to make it into the Indian team?
Auqib Nabi has been one of the finest bowlers in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26. He made a huge impact and gained attention over the night. He helped his team to achieve their maiden IPL title. Everyone was expecting him to play for India. But he did not get the call from the BCCI. If Auqib keeps performing like this soon he will make his debut in the Indian team.
