- The Bloomsday Run is back after a COVID-related two-year break. Since its inception in 1977 as a component of the city’s annual Lilac Festival, the race has been conducted on the first Sunday in May. Its founder, Olympic marathoner Don Kardong. Between 35,000 and 45,000 people typically participate.
- Although the marathon has a competitive component, at its heart it is a fun run with about 30 performers strewn along the 7.46-mile road course. Rock bands, belly dancers, choirs, drum lines—the entertainment is diverse and includes all of these.

The centipede division of Bay to Breakers consists of groups of 13 or more runners who complete the entire 12K course together, typically connected by a bungee cable.
