Bianca Andreescu, a Canadian tennis player, stated on Monday that she will not compete in the 2022 Australian Open.

After a “difficult” two years that included testing positive for Covid-19, Andreescu explained her decision on Twitter, stating she wants to “re-set, recover, and grow.”

“Hello, everyone. As you are all aware, the previous two years have been quite difficult for me due to a multitude of factors “Andreescu penned the piece.

“This year, in particular, I spent several weeks in isolation quarantining, which had a significant mental and physical impact on me. In addition, my grandma was in the ICU for several weeks due to a COVID infection, which impacted me hard.”

“I didn’t feel like myself on a lot of days, especially when I was training and/or playing matches. I felt as though I was bearing the weight of the entire planet on my shoulders. I couldn’t keep my mind off what was going on off the court; I was feeling the collective pain and stress, and it was wearing me down “The 21-year-old made a point.

“I want to allow myself more time to re-set, recuperate, and grow from this [as cliche as that may seem] and continue to inspire by doing charity work, giving back, and working on myself because I know that if I do, I will be stronger than before. As a result, I will not begin my season in Australia this year, but will instead take some time off to reflect, train, and prepare for the future tennis season in 2022 “she came to a conclusion

Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion, was ranked No. 46 at the end of the 2021 season. Andreescu, a former World No. 4, played her first match in over a year at the Australian Open in February after missing the entire 2020 season due to injuries.

For the rest of the season, Andreescu, 21, would only make one quarterfinal. In June, she announced the end of her relationship with coach Sylvain Bruneau and hired veteran coach Sven Groeneveld before of the summer hardcourt season.

At the US Open, the new pairing performed admirably in the Round of 16. Andreescu’s 2021 season came to an end in Indian Wells, as she lost in the third round against Anett Kontaveit.
