This is the question that has been asked the most since my column started. First of all, I would like to tell you that you can increase the speed of your balls only up to a limit with your natural talent. After this limit, you will have to do many types of practice to increase the speed. To improve speed, you will have to take the help of biomechanics. Body movements are studied under biomechanics. I will tell you the way to increase speed through three body movements:

Get speed from run-up: For fast bowling, your run-up should be natural and smooth. Your running speed should increase gradually and make sure that your steps fall in a line while running. During this, your eyes should remain on the target. The run-up should be long enough to give you full speed.

Role of non-bowling arm: To increase speed, you also have to keep in mind that your non-bowling arm should go as high as possible and after coming to eye level, it should come down quickly by making a short lever. This increases the speed of the bowling arm and as a result, your bowling too.

Front foot and back foot: While delivering the ball, the knee of your front foot should remain straight and the body upwards so that your ball is delivered from the maximum height. You should take care of one more thing and that is the movement of the back foot. The back foot will rise completely and go forward. This will allow the force of the whole body to be applied in bowling.

Rock back by taking a jump: People have different beliefs about taking a jump for fast bowling. Some coaches say that there is no need for a jump. But I believe that jumps should be taken because jumps help you to be side-on and semi-side-on. Jumps are not needed only for open-chest bowling.

While taking a jump, try to keep your body straight in a line, do not let it fall. You will be able to do this only when your back, stomach, and thigh muscles are very strong. Therefore, keep working on these three parts of the body to strengthen them.

The biggest advantage of jumps is that you can rock back. That is, you can pull your upper body backward. The more you pull your body back, the more your bowling speed will increase. But there are also ways to make rock-back more effective. When we lift the knee of the front leg up to the waist and bend it more, we will be able to rock back better.
