Can Atletico Madrid Beat Barcelona And Real Madrid to win the Spanish League Title race?

Can Diego Simeone lift the La Liga trophy for the second time with Atletico ?

The La Liga title race is on. The 3 Front runners for the year’s title are Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, And Barcelona with 6, 65, and 64 points respectively. With only 8 matches to play in the league, it might go till the last match to decide the winner. Barcelona went through turmoil last year after an 8-2 defeat in the Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich.

Messi sent resignation papers to the Barcelona board as he was extremely disappointed with the team’s and board’s approach towards the game. Coach Quique Setién was sacked by the club. To make the greatest player of the club’s history stay, a lot of changes were made. Ronald Koeman was brought in as a new coach. Luis Suarez, Nelson Semedo, Arthur, and Ivan Rakitic were a few of the popular players who were sold by the club. Messi as per a special contract clause makes him eligible to leave the club at the end of the season. But as the pandemic hit the world, the season was extended for a longer period and that exception was used by the La Liga and Barcelona board to make the player stay and made it impossible for any club to pay the €700 million buyout clause of the player.

Barcelona and La Liga board were successful in keeping the player in the league. Not much was expected of Barcelona And Ronald Koeman in the season. After a slow start in the first few games, Koeman took control and things started to settle down. Barcelona eventually won 20 out of their 30 league matches and Koeman proved out to be a successful coach for the club.

Atletico Madrid however took the league by storm in the starting. Atletico won 8 out of their first 10 matches including a win over Barcelona by 1-0. Diego Simeone and Luis Suarez proved out to be an incredible player-coach duo for the club. Diego Simeone went all out for Suarez and praised his playing style and goal-scoring abilities. Atletico later in the league lost twice to their city rivals Real Madrid and drew 7 matches. They were caught by Zidane’s Real who slowly and steadily kept climbing the positions in the league table and eventually ended at 2nd position after 30 games.

In the end, it would be extremely exciting to see a fight between these 3 teams and who ends up winning this prestigious title.
