The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on February 23. India has won all of its matches against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup, but has only won 2 out of 5 games against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy.

In their last Champions Trophy encounter, Pakistan defeated India by 180 runs to win the 2017 tournament. Amir, who took the wickets of Rohit Sharma (0), Virat Kohli (5), and Shikhar Dhawan (21) in that match, believes that based on recent performances, Pakistan will have the upper hand.

Mohammad Amir Believes Pakistan Will Have the Edge Based on Recent Performances

Mohammad Amir was quoted as saying by the Times of India: “The way Pakistan has played recently—defeating Australia in Australia and then beating South Africa—shows their strength, especially in overseas conditions. Considering their recent performances, I think Pakistan will have the upper hand against India. However, India has always been my favorite in big tournaments. But the Indian team is under pressure and facing severe criticism due to their recent defeats.”

India’s star fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, is currently struggling with a back injury and might not play in the Champions Trophy 2025. Amir believes that if Bumrah is missing from the team, it will put a lot of pressure on the world’s No. 1 ODI team.

“It will be a huge loss to India if Bumrah isn’t there. He has been a top bowler for India, leading the pack from the front. Without him, the Indian bowling attack is reduced to 40-50 percent of its strength,” he said.

Bumrah was outstanding for India in the recent Test series against Australia. He played all five matches and took 32 wickets, setting a record for the most wickets by an Indian bowler in a Test series played overseas.
