Just before the halfway point of the league, Chennaiyin FC is gearing up to conclude the year on a high note in their upcoming fixture against Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24. The match is scheduled at the Mumbai Football Arena on Thursday.
Currently occupying the sixth spot in the points table with 12 points, Chennaiyin’s head coach Owen Coyle expressed enthusiasm about facing Mumbai City, renowned for their attacking brand of football.
Speaking ahead of the match in a press conference, Coyle stated, “Playing against Mumbai City promises to be an exciting contest. They are a formidable side, and I relish the challenge of playing in their stadium and environment. Both teams play an attacking style of football, making it a thrilling encounter.”
Acknowledging the tough opposition, Coyle added, “Mumbai City is a strong opponent, but they recognize our quality and goal-scoring ability. We’re prepared to present a formidable performance.”
Reflecting on Chennaiyin’s journey in the league, Coyle remarked, “Our consistency took a hit in the initial three games. However, since then, the team has displayed remarkable consistency. While we faced tough opponents, we’ve demonstrated our potential and secured important results.”
Defender Lazar Cirkovic echoed Coyle’s sentiments, emphasizing the team’s unity and shared objectives. “We function as a close-knit family. Every match, we strive for excellence. Overcoming fitness challenges, I’m eager to contribute to the team,” he mentioned during the press conference.
Chennaiyin and Mumbai City have a closely contested history in the ISL, having played 18 matches. Chennaiyin FC secured victory in six matches, while Mumbai City emerged victorious in nine encounters.
