Colour Blue: Story Behind the Colour of Indian Jersey, Despite of Their National Flag Being Tri-coloured

Over the years, the country of India has set an example to the world by creating an excellent impression in each and every sports event. The only thing that has remained constant in the outstanding journey is their Indian jersey, which is blue in colour.

Not long ago, the BCCI came up with a new jersey for the Indian Cricket Team before the T20I series against Australia. And as per reports, the new jersey comprises similar features that the team had in the past. However, the only variation is that the brand-new jersey has somewhat lighter shade than the previous one.

Well, there have been numerous queries associating the ‘blue colour’, when there are three colours (Saffron, White and Green) in the National Flag of India. But the National Flag itself has the response to this question. According to reports, Saffron was not used, since it could have been associated with political groups. The colour white wasn’t used because white uniform wouldn’t have any visual effect, and green colour is already used by the Pakistan team of Pakistan. Therefore, it was the Ashok Chakra in the middle with 24 spokes representing movement and growth that became an inspiration for team India’s uniform. Moreover, it is not only the cricket team, but the other sports teams of India also as well have blue colour kits.

Perhaps, the Indian team is often recognised as the “Men in Blue” Since 1985, the jersey of the Indian team across all sports formats has been blue in colour. However, the shades have changed over the years. Moreover, the Indian cricket fans have come up with an interesting phrase, “Bleed Blue”, which is related to the jersey.
