Conor McGregor is undoubtedly the biggest star the UFC has ever seen. While he has been out of action for a while, it’s pretty clear at this point that he is waiting for a chance to get back into the octagon. Interestingly, his fight against Michael Chandler was even officially announced in 2024 before being cancelled.

However, McGregor has stayed firm with his wish to return to the UFC. At the start of the year, there was some chatter about him potentially fighting at UFC’s White House event as well. However, that isn’t going to be the case anymore, as he was seemingly left out of the officially announced fight card.

Since then, Conor McGregor revealed that he will most likely get a fight later this year. While an opponent hasn’t been revealed yet, a few names have floated around to face McGregor. Most recently, the Irishman has received a call-out from a former UFC welterweight champion.

Kamaru Usman calls for a fight against Conor McGregor

Kamaru Usman is widely considered to be one of the best welterweights of his generation. The former welterweight champion is now eyeing a fight against McGregor upon the latter’s return. While making his ambitions clear, Usman took to X and said:

“Usman X Mcgregor 2026”

Kamaru Usman dominated the welterweight division while being a champion before ultimately losing the title to Leon Edwards. He holds wins over Colby Covington (twice), Jorge Masvidal (twice), Gilbert Burns, Tyron Woodley, Rafael dos Anjos, and Leon Edwards, and more. In his last fight, Usman beat Joaquin Buckley.

His days as a serious title contender may be over, but his legacy and popularity would make him a credible opponent for a Conor McGregor fight. Moreover,  he definitely has the skills to win against the Irishman. In fact, he would probably be favored to beat him, considering McGregor’s lack of action recently. However, he is still a dangerous fighter and one of the biggest names in the company.
