Cricketers who don’t promote alcohol brands

In this article, we will take a look at the Indian cricketers who chose not to support alcohol brands even after receiving enormous sums of money for brand endorsement deals.

Brand endorsements and marketing are the main sources of income for cricket players. Most of these players have sizable social media fan bases and are regarded as demigods by the audience. On all of the major social media sites, more than 100 million people follow Indian skipper Virat Kohli. These cricketers were paid millions of dollars to advertise brands thanks to their enormous social media following. Nowadays, practically every cricket professional works to promote at least one business. In the past, these cricket players have been in a number of divisive commercials. While most cricketers work with virtually every kind of brand, some have chosen not to support alcohol brands even after receiving enormous sums of money for brand endorsement deals.

In this article, we will take a look at the Indian cricketers who chose not to support alcohol brands even after receiving enormous sums of money for brand endorsement deals.

  1. Sachin Tendulkar

One of the most admired and recognised cricket players in the world is the legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar. He played for the Indian squad for 24 years (1989–2013), and throughout that time, he consistently delivered outstanding performances. Tendulkar has an extremely disciplined attitude, but he also doesn’t endorse any alcohol or tobacco products. Tendulkar turned down a tobacco company’s request to put their emblem on his bat in 1996. After his retirement, a company that sold alcoholic beverages asked Tendulkar to promote its non-alcoholic products using the same name as the company, but the illustrious Indian player refused. Explaining the reason why Sachin Tendulkar turned down alcohol endorsements, he said ‘By not endorsing these companies, I kept the pledge I made to my father. They made me several offers to put their sticker on my bat and promote their company, but I declined. I have avoided these two things and have always kept my pledge to my father.’

  1. Rahul Dravid

Celebrity sports players have promoted a variety of things over the years, including chips, tobacco, alcohol, paan masala, and fairness creams, among others, that have a doubtful usefulness or a history of harm. Print, radio, electronic, and social media are all forms of advertising and promotion. Rahul Dravid has demonstrated excellence by refraining from promoting unhealthy food products and serving as the health ministry’s ambassador for tobacco control, in contrast to celebrities who assert their right to make money by endorsing a legally sanctioned and commercially available product. Beginning with his time as a cricket player, Rahul Dravid has a lengthy history of working as a brand ambassador. Reebok, Pepsi, Kissan, Castrol, Hutch, Karnataka Tourism, Max Life, Bank of Baroda, Citizen, Skyline Construction, Sansui, Gillette, and Samsung are a few of the companies he has promoted over the years. He has never promoted any alcohol brand.

  1. Sourav Ganguly

As the head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly is a man of great wealth, and his brand worth will continue to climb in the local and national markets. Following his retirement, Sourav created a unique persona for himself as the host of the well-known Bengali game show Dadagiri. Ganguly had previously agreed to a contract with a major name like Puma, Burnpur Cements, or Cycle Agarbattis and is the face of numerous real estate projects in Bengal. Given that Sourav elevated this local community to a national level while working with Senco Gold and Diamonds for more than five years, they view him as their brand’s face. Working with individuals who are not anodyne is typically not a favourite of brands. Being contentious versus being forthright has a big difference. In almost everyone’s opinions, Ganguly is honest and opinionated, according to his personality. After achieving his high position, he has become a person society looks up to, which has made him a star of brand endorsements. In his flourishing career and post-retirement period, Sourav Ganguly has never promoted any alcohol brand.
