Cristiano Ronaldo Silences Doubts; Says, “I Belong To Saudi Arabia”

4 Min Read

Cristiano Ronaldo has put speculation about his future to rest, declaring his happiness at Al Nassr after delivering a commanding performance that sent his side back to the summit of the Saudi Pro League.

The Portuguese superstar scored twice in a dominant 4-0 victory over Al Hazem at Al Awwal Park, a result that lifted Al Nassr one point clear at the top of the table. It was a timely response from Ronaldo, who had recently been at the center of reports suggesting frustration over the club’s transfer activity and internal management structure.

In an interview with Saudi broadcaster Thmanyah, Cristiano Ronaldo dismissed any notion of unrest.

“I’m very happy. As I say many times, I belong to Saudi Arabia. It’s a country that welcomed me very well- me, my family and my friends. I’m happy here. I want to continue here.”

From Speculation to Statement Performance

Reports had indicated Ronaldo was dissatisfied with the role of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which oversees several top clubs in the league. He missed multiple matches earlier this month, fueling rumors of tension behind the scenes.

However, his return has been emphatic. After finding the net against Al-Fateh, he followed up with a brace against Al Hazem, showing that his focus remains firmly on football.

The victory marked Al Nassr’s eighth consecutive league win and extended their remarkable defensive run, having kept clean sheets in six straight matches. Title rivals Al Hilal dropped points in a draw with Al-Ittihad, opening the door for Al Nassr to reclaim first place. Al Ahli and Al Qadsiah remain within striking distance, ensuring a tightly contested run-in.

Chasing Records Again

Ronaldo’s brace took his tally to 20 league goals this season, placing him firmly in the Golden Boot race behind Ivan Toney and Julián Quiñones. The 41-year-old is chasing a third consecutive scoring title- further evidence that age has done little to dull his competitive edge.

Since arriving in Saudi Arabia in December 2022 following his departure from Manchester United, Ronaldo has transformed both Al Nassr and the global perception of the league. His reported £177 million annual salary made headlines worldwide, but his impact on and off the pitch has arguably been even greater.

A Symbolic Celebration

After Saturday’s victory, Ronaldo celebrated Saudi Arabia’s Founding Day by donning a traditional bisht in front of the home fans- a gesture that blended football success with cultural appreciation.

Later, he reinforced his message on social media: “Back where we belong. Now back to work.”

With a contract extension tying him to Al Nassr until 2027, Ronaldo’s future appears settled- at least for now. More importantly, his focus remains unchanged: win matches, apply pressure, and deliver another league title.
