King Charles III has officially knighted David Beckham at a prestigious ceremony held in Windsor Castle, which the football legend termed his “proudest moment.”
The former England football captain, who was bestowed the honour for his services to sport and charity, joined a list of honorees that included Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro and musical theatre star Elaine Paige. Beckham’s knighthood was announced earlier this year in the King’s Birthday Honours List.

Speaking after the ceremony to PA Media, David Beckham spoke of his deep gratitude and emotion at receiving one of the United Kingdom’s highest honours.
“I’ve been very lucky in my career to have achieved what I have, but to be knighted is beyond anything I ever imagined,” Beckham said.
“A young boy from Leytonstone, standing here at Windsor Castle, being honoured by His Majesty the King-it’s quite a moment.”
The ceremony symbolized a full-circle moment for Beckham, who has been an influential global ambassador for both English football and philanthropy.

Beckham said that his style decisions had been made under the long influence of King Charles:
“I’ve always admired His Majesty’s elegance. I looked at old pictures of him in morning suits and told my wife, ‘That’s what I want to wear.’ She created it perfectly,” he shared, adding that the King “was quite impressed” with the final look.
