Dawid Malan to leave Yorkshire

After leading his team through the 2025 T20 season, Dawid Malan Joins Gloucestershire On Two-Year T20 DealMalan, 38 years old, parted ways with his contract with Yorkshire by mutual agreement.

Malan played a significant role in helping the club to become a top scorer during the previous two T20 Blast seasons (2023 & 2024). He previously played for a total of thirteen years on behalf of Middlesex, a team he led to win the T20 Championship back in 2008.

Retirement from England Duty

After an illustrious career with England, Dawid Malan has retired from international duty following the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Yet, he remains one of the most accomplished T20 players in the world. He scored eight hundreds for England across all formats and also held the title of the world’s No. 1-ranked T20I batter. He was the fastest player to 1,000 T20I runs – in just 24 innings – a testament to his skill.

Malan was also part of England’s T20 World Cup-winning team in 2022, missing the final because of injury. He had some good stints in the Ashes series, one in particular being the 2017-18 tour when he scored a brilliant 140 in Perth, and just to state again, his case as one of the best cricketers.

Dawid Malan’s T20 Franchise Success

Malan remains one of the most in-demand players across the world’s T20 franchise circuit. He helped Fortune Barishal win the BPL in Bangladesh earlier this year, and he is currently playing in Nepal, adding to his portfolio of international T20 experiences that make him certain to bring a wealth of expertise into Gloucestershire’s T20 squad.

A New Chapter with Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire lifted the T20 Blast in 2024 and will seek to continue from where they left off with Malan on board for the next few seasons. The signing of Dawid Malan completes a reunion between the player and the club’s Director of Cricket, Jon Lewis, along with Head Coach Mark Alleyne, with whom Malan has worked while with England.

Malan spoke about his excitement to be joining Gloucestershire, pinpointing how the club seems ambitious to push for titles in the next few seasons. He credited the professionalism of both Jon Lewis and Mark Alleyne, saying he is looking forward to being part of the continued growth and success of the team.

Jon Lewis on Dawid Malan’s Signing

Jon Lewis, who joined Gloucestershire this year, was effusive about the signing. “Players of Dawid’s calibre are rare in the domestic game, so when the opportunity arose to bring him to Bristol, we acted quickly,” said Lewis. He further added that the experience Malan carries through his service in England and internationally would be a big asset for Gloucestershire’s T20 squad.

“Dawid is an excellent professional and a fantastic person to have in the dressing room,” said Lewis. “His record speaks for itself. We’re excited to see him play a key role in what we hope will be a successful season for the team at Seat Unique Stadium.”

The Future of Gloucestershire’s T20 Ambitions The capture of Dawid Malan gives Gloucestershire a player of the highest possible pedigree and worldwide reputation to strengthen their T20 team. High-pressure T20 matches will be crucial in shaping the future success of this team as the club seeks to defend their T20 Blast title and fight for more.
