DCW vs MIW: In the 2nd match of WPL 2025 held at Baroda Stadium, DCW chased down a target of 165 runs with the help of team effort and explosive innings of Shefali Verma contributing 43 runs in just 18 balls smashing 2 sixes and 7 fours. She smashed 22 runs in the over of Saika Ishaque, hitting 4 boundaries and 1 maximum. The rivalry between DCW and MIW has been settled in WPL. With the help of some uncertain support from match officials and third umpire DCW got an edge in their chase.
MIs satisfactory total of 164 in DCW vs MIW
Openers Yashika Bhatia and Hailey Matthews got dismissed early but with the help of Nat Sciver Brunt’s 80* off 59 balls and Harmanpreet Kaur’s 42 off 22 balls led the MIs squad to a satisfactory total where other batters failed to contribute even in two digits other than Yashika who made just 11 off 9.
DCs miraculous chase against MI
In the 2nd over of the innings, Shafali Verma smashed 22 runs in the over Saika Ishaque and set the tone for the team to grab the chase. Within the powerplay, Shafali managed to score 43 runs off 18 balls and DC led to scoring 60 runs in the powerplay, putting themselves in a strong position.
In the last over of powerplay bowled by Hailey Matthews, took the big fish Shefali on the leg side making a comeback for MI in the match. Within 3 overs DC consecutively lost 3 wickets rapidly and managed to make just 16 runs at the loss of these wickets. The debutant Alice Capsey was only able to contribute 15 runs and was dismissed in the 15th over.
Stable innings of Niki Prasad scoring 35 off 33 balls and short fireworks by Sarah Bryce brought DC back in the chase with just 10 runs to score in the last over.
DCW vs MIW, Last over thriller
Shockingly Sajeevan Sajana got the last over by the Skipper Harmanpreet. She bowled a short delivery on the leg which was pulled by Niki Prasad on the square leg leading to four with a misfielding by in the deep. Again gets a short-pitched delivery and slogs it towards the deep midwicket following with a double.
Nikki slices and gets a single by the hands of Kalita due to a misfield, Radha Yadav plays it towards fine leg for a single, and at the last ball Nikki Yadav goes for aerial playing an inside-out toward covers, Harmanpreet misses the catch and throws towards keeper with a two bounce with a hope of runout at the end.
Controversial run-outs by match officials in the WPL, DCW vs MIW match
At the last ball of the match, Nikki got a clean chit by the umpire even after the keeper touched the stumps before Nikki managed to drag the bat inside the crease but due to bails not coming out of the stumps, it was declared not-out and DCW won the last ball thriller against MIW by 2 wickets in the 2nd match of WPL.
