This time DFB Pokal’s 1st round took place from from 16th to 28th August 2024. In this round 32 matches took place with the winners proceeding to the second round of the tournament.
The second round of the tournament took place on 29th and 30th October 2024. The winning teams were then promoted to the Round of 16.
The Round of 16 took place on 3rd and 4th December 2024 in which Arminia Bielefeld, VfB Stuttgart, Bayer leverkusen, Werder Bremen, 1. FC Koln, VfL Wolfsburg, RB Leipzig and FC Augsburg qualified for the quarter finals. Also, Bayer Leverkusen defeated Bayern Munich in this round knocking the german giants out of the cup with a scoreline of 1-0.
VfB Stuttgart 1-0 FC Augsburg (February 4, 2025): Stuttgart secured their semi-final spot with a narrow victory over Augsburg, thanks to a decisive goal from Deniz Undav in the 29th minute.
Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 1. FC Köln (February 5, 2025, after extra time): In a thrilling Rhine derby, defending champions Leverkusen overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat Köln. Victor Boniface emerged as the hero, scoring the extra-time winner to complete the comeback.
Arminia Bielefeld 2-1 Werder Bremen (February 25, 2025): Third-division side Arminia Bielefeld continued their remarkable cup run by upsetting Bundesliga club Werder Bremen. Marius Wörl opened the scoring in the 35th minute, and a subsequent own goal by Julian Malatini extended Bielefeld’s lead. Despite Werder’s efforts, including a goal from Oliver Burke, Bielefeld held on to advance.
RB Leipzig 1-0 VfL Wolfsburg (February 26, 2025): RB Leipzig secured their semi-final berth with a hard-fought win over Wolfsburg. The match’s only goal came from a second-half penalty converted by Benjamin Šeško, ensuring Leipzig’s progression in the tournament.
The semi final fixtures are yet to be announced. The draw will take place on 2nd March 2025 which will decide the two semis between the four teams that are Bayer Leverkusen, Arminia Bielefeld, VfB Stuttgart and RB Leipzig. The matches will be played on 1st and 2nd April, 2025.
The final is scheduled to play on 24th May, 2025 in Berlin and will be an exciting match to watch. Patrick Schick is the highest goal scorer of the tournament with 4 goals for bayer Leverkusen.
With Leverkusen already beating arch rivals Bayern Munich, they look the most likely to win and retain their title.
