Digvesh Rathi caused a lot of drama in the recent IPL 2025 match between LSG and RCB at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on May 27. He ran out RCB batter Jitesh Sharma during a crucial point in the match.
Digvesh Rathi’s Controversial Run-Out Attempt
The incident happened in the 17th over when Digvesh tried to run out Jitesh at the non-striker’s end. The third umpire ruled that Digvesh had already completed his bowling action when he made the attempt, which normally isn’t allowed – bowlers can only attempt this type of run out before finishing their action.
Rishabh Pant’s Sportsmanship Wins Hearts
Although the LSG team supported the appeal, Rishabh Pant showed great sportsmanship and decided to withdraw it. Later in the match, Jitesh hugged Pant as a thank-you, creating a memorable and emotional moment.
Many fans hailed Rishabh Pant for his kind heart and ‘spirit of the game’. Check out the reactions and the viral video:

IPL Playing Conditions: What the Rules Say
According to the Playing conditions of the IPL, “If the non-striker is out of his/her ground at any time from the moment the ball comes into play until the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the non-striker is liable to be Run out by the bowler attempting to run him/her out. In these circumstances, the non-striker will be run out if he/she is out of his/her ground when his/her wicket is broken by the bowler throwing the ball at the wicket or by the bowler’s hand holding the ball, whether or not the ball is subsequently delivered“.
RCB Seal Thrilling Win, Qualify for Playoffs
Earlier in the match, Rishabh Pant scored an unbeaten 118, and Mitchell Marsh added 67 runs, helping LSG post a strong total of 227/3 in their 20 overs.
In response, RCB got off to a solid start with Virat Kohli scoring 54 and Phil Salt adding 30. However, they lost a few wickets in the middle, which slowed down their chase.
But Mayank Agarwal (41\*) and Jitesh Sharma (85\*) turned the game around with a partnership of over 100 runs, taking RCB to victory with a final score of 230/4.
With this win, RCB qualified for the first Qualifier match against PBKS on May 29. Meanwhile, GT will face MI in the Eliminator on May 30. Both matches will be held in Chandigarh.
