Niclas Fullkrug’s hat-trick propels Borussia Dortmund to a commanding 3-1 victory over Bochum, marking their third consecutive win in the Bundesliga.
In a stellar performance, Niclas Fullkrug’s hat-trick propelled Borussia Dortmund to a convincing 3-1 victory over Bochum, securing their third consecutive win in the Bundesliga. The home team got off to an ideal start as Fullkrug calmly converted a penalty in the 7th minute, courtesy of Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Riemann’s foul on Donyell Malen.
Despite Bochum’s efforts to keep their defense solid, Riemann found himself busy thwarting attempts from Ian Maatsen and Marcel Sabitzer. However, an unexpected turn saw Bochum equalize just before halftime when Nico Schlotterbeck inadvertently deflected Patrick Osterhage’s pass into his net.
Borussia Dortmund, eager to regain the lead, nearly succeeded immediately, but Maximilian Wittek skillfully denied Malen’s goal attempt. The second half saw Bochum energetically pressing forward, with Osterhage and Christopher Antwi-Adjei creating opportunities. Yet, Dortmund regained control as Fullkrug headed in Jamie Bynoe-Gittens’ cross, restoring the lead in the 72nd minute.
Bochum’s pursuit of an equalizer proved futile, and Fullkrug sealed the victory with a second penalty, converting it coolly to beat Riemann for the second time. With this triumph, Borussia Dortmund now sits comfortably in the top four, while Bochum remains in 14th place.
Dortmund coach Edin Terzic expressed satisfaction with the win, acknowledging that it was not a flawless performance but a step forward. Bochum coach Thomas Letsch, while proud of his team’s resilience, lamented the early setback but recognized the strong effort put forth.
In another critical match, Union Berlin secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Darmstadt, with Benedict Hollerbach’s lone goal proving decisive in their relegation battle.
