ENG vs IND: On Friday, June 13, 2025, the Indian cricket team players wore black armbands during their practice match. The ENG vs IND Test match is being played between Team India and India A at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham. It’s a four-day game to help the players get ready for the upcoming five-match Test series against England.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared on social media that the players are wearing black armbands during the ongoing ENG vs IND match to honour the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash, one of the worst air disasters in India’s history.
The BCCI also said that a minute of silence was held before the ENG vs IND first Test match to pay respect to those who lost their lives in the crash.
“The players and members of support staff involved in the intra-squad game in Beckenham are wearing black armbands,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrote.
“A minute’s silence was also observed today to pay homage to the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash, as a mark of respect for the lives lost and solidarity with the affected families,” the BCCI added.
On June 12, a tragic incident took place in Ahmedabad that shocked people around the world. An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner (flight AI-171), which was on its way to London, crashed into a neighborhood where doctors and medical students from BJ Medical College lived.
The plane crashed soon after taking off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport, causing a huge explosion and fire.
There were 242 people on board – 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Most were Indians (169), along with 53 British, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian.
Sadly, 241 people died. Only one person survived – Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British-Indian in seat 11A. Investigators have recovered the black box and are now looking into the cause of the crash.
Meanwhile, before Day 3 of the ICC World Test Championship Final 2025 at Lord’s in London, South Africa and Australia players paid tribute to the victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12.
In a touching show of respect, both teams wore black armbands and observed a minute’s silence to honor the 241 lives lost in the tragedy.
