Jasprit Bumrah stole the spotlight in England’s first innings at Leeds, taking 5 for 82 as India grabbed a narrow six-run lead. He could have had more, but a no-ball gave Harry Brook a lifeline on zero, and Brook made India pay with a superb 99.

Jasprit Bumrah Shines Bright in Leeds Test

Bumrah broke the backbone of England’s batting, though a few dropped catches cost him extra wickets. England posted 465 in reply to India’s 471. With two days left, India leads by 96 runs with eight wickets in hand, and the match is perfectly poised unless the weather decides to interfere.

1. Most Test Wickets in SENA Countries

Bumrah made history by surpassing the great Wasim Akram and becoming the first Asian bowler to claim 150 Test wickets in SENA countries. He now tops this elite list with 150 wickets to his name and still has plenty of Test cricket left in him.

2. Most Test Fifers by an Indian in England

This was Bumrah’s third five-wicket haul in Tests on English soil, the most by any Indian bowler there. It’s no surprise that many see him as the best fast bowler in the world right now.

3. Joint Most Test Fifers by an Indian Abroad

Bumrah now has 12 five-wicket hauls in Tests outside India, matching the great Kapil Dev. The difference is that Kapil needed 66 away Tests to get there, while Bumrah has reached the mark in just 34 matches. At this rate, it won’t be long before he holds the record on his own.

4. Joint Most Fifers in World Test Championship

Ravichandran Ashwin and Bumrah now hold the joint record for the most five-wicket hauls in the World Test Championship, with 11 each. But with Ashwin retiring in 2024, Bumrah is likely to take this record for himself very soon.
