On Tuesday, May 13, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced their white-ball squads for the upcoming series against the West Indies. This will be Harry Brook’s first series as the full-time captain. The most surprising news from the announcement was that star all-rounder Liam Livingstone has not been picked for either the ODI or T20I squads.

Harry Brook Named Full-Time Captain

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the white-ball squads for the upcoming series against the West Indies, with Harry Brook set to lead the team for the first time as full-time captain.

One of the biggest surprises is the exclusion of all-rounder Liam Livingstone from both the ODI and T20I squads. His form had dropped in recent months, and although he made a strong comeback-scoring his first ODI century (124* off 85 balls) and even captaining England in the Caribbean—he has been dropped again.

Phil Salt has also been left out of the ODI squad but remains in the T20I team. Liam Dawson and Luke Wood return to the T20I setup, while Tom Hartley is back in the ODI squad. Will Jacks has been picked for both formats, alongside Tom Banton and Matthew Potts.

Five IPL-bound players are part of the England squads: Jos Buttler (Gujarat Titans), Jacob Bethell (RCB), Jofra Archer (RR), Will Jacks (MI), and Phil Salt (RCB). The ODIs will be played on May 29, June 1, and June 3 at Edgbaston, Sophia Gardens, and The Oval. The T20Is will follow on June 6, 8, and 20 at the Riverside Ground, Bristol, and The Rose Bowl.

With the IPL extended to June 3, the ODI series overlaps with the tournament. This raises questions about player availability, but the ECB said, “Keen to support the IPL in getting the schedule up and running, and to facilitate players’ return should they choose to go back. NOCs being reviewed particularly in relation to any clash with the final white-ball squad.”
