Esports World Cup 2026 will now take place in Paris, France, after originally being planned for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. On 14 May 2026, GamesBeat reported that the Esports Foundation informed important tournament partners and stakeholders about the venue change. The decision was linked to growing uncertainty in the Middle East because of the 2026 Iran war, during which Iran and allied groups reportedly attacked Saudi infrastructure.
The situation had already affected other major sports events, including the Saudi Arabian Formula One Grand Prix, which could not be held as scheduled in April 2026. On 20 May, the Esports Foundation officially confirmed the move to Paris. The change shows how global events like esports can also be affected by political tension and international security concerns.
Esports World Cup 2026: New Games, Big Returns, and Major Debate
Esports World Cup 2026 officially revealed its game lineup in different stages between October 2025 and January 2026. The event first announced 20 games on 8 October 2025, but popular titles like Rocket League, StarCraft II, Rennsport, and Tekken 8 were missing from the returning list. Tekken 8 later returned on 11 October as the 21st game. In December, Epic Games signed a three-year partnership with EWC, bringing back Fortnite and Rocket League until 2028.
Fortnite will use the Reload mode instead of traditional Battle Royale. On 19 January 2026, Trackmania became the 24th and final game, making its EWC debut. However, the removal of StarCraft II also ended the presence of real-time strategy games, creating disappointment among many longtime esports fans and creators.
Esports World Cup 2026 Prize Pool Breaks Records Across Esports
Esports World Cup 2026 is set to create history with a massive total prize pool of 75 million US dollars, making it one of the richest esports events ever organized. This amount is higher than last year’s 71.5 million dollars, showing how quickly competitive gaming is growing around the world. Out of the total prize money, 30 million dollars will be given to the top 24 teams in the Club Championship, which is also an increase from 27 million dollars in 2025.
However, the winning club will still receive the same grand reward of 7 million dollars. Another 39 million dollars will be shared across all 25 esports events. The huge prize pool reflects how esports is now becoming as competitive and globally important as traditional sports.
