The European Athletics Team Championships 1st Division took place in Madrid, Spain from 26-29 June 2025. The four-day championships took place at the Vallehermoso Stadium where 16 teams competed across 37 disciplines.
Niels Laros of the Netherlands upset a strong 5000m field to grab a surprise gold ahead of fellow Paris 2024 Olympian Dominic Lobalu and Spain’s Thierry Ndikumwenayo.
In the women’s long jump, Larissa Iapichino took her second continental title this season with a fifth-round attempt of 6.92m. The Italian, who also took the European Indoor title earlier in the season, finished ahead of Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Malaika Mihambo at the European Athletics Team Championships.
Femke Bol of the Netherlands rose to the expectations to win women’s 400m ahead of Polish Natalia Bukowiecka (50.14) and Spain’s Paula Sevilla (50.70).
Italy retained the overall team title ahead of second-place Poland, while Germany finished the European Athletics Team Championships 1st Division in third.
