Everything You Want to Know About Manchester United F.C.
One of the most prominent football clubs, Manchester United has a long history. Read to know everything about the team and its players.
Manchester United F.C. are paired with Liverpool, the most successful football team in English history. Liverpool has more international championships than “The Red Devils,” despite having won more national championships.
Manchester experienced some of the quickest growth during the Industrial Revolution, in large part because of the influx of labourers from the British Islands. Manchester, which had been a relatively tiny town at the start of the 19th century, had surpassed one million residents by 1900 and had grown to be one of the largest cities in Europe.
Due to the fact that workers predominated the sport in its early years, the conditions were ideal for football clubs to flourish. The Newton Heath L&YR Football Club was the original name of the organization that would subsequently change its name to Manchester United FC.
The Plane Crash
In the history of Manchester United, there is one day that stands out in dark colours. That day was in 1958. The United team was on its way back to England following a match in the European Cup versus Red Star Belgrade when calamity struck. After refuelling in Munich, the plane crashed after take-off, killing eight players and three crew members. However, the coach lived to see another great team emerge that went on to win more championship trophies and have heartfelt triumphs throughout the years.
Shifts of Management
Following that, the team was coached by Tommy Docherty, who was even more successful. Docherty was however replaced in 1977 by the more conservative Dave Sexton. He was succeeded by Ron Atkinson in 1981.
The Alex Ferguson Era
In the year 1986, the team hired Alex Ferguson as its manager. Although it may be difficult to imagine, the squad’s first several seasons under Ferguson’s leadership were incredibly challenging, and that was before the team won the FA Cup in 1990. The club won at least 25 significant trophies over the following 20 years, including about 11 League titles.
“Merchandise United” and the Glazer Acquisition
Malcolm Glazer, an American investor, acquired enough shares in the Manchester club between 2003 and 2005 to take ownership. Fans were remarkably unfriendly toward the new ownership. However, despite the contentious turbulence that followed the Glazer family’s ownership, the team continued to improve, upholding its prestigious reputation and enjoying a sizable worldwide fan following. It was ranked as the second highest-earning club in the world during 2013 and 2014, with an estimated €518 million in income. It was even ranked third among football clubs in terms of value in 2015.
