Pakistan’s veteran opener Fakhar Zaman has been excluded from the current PAK vs WI tour due to a left hamstring strain, which he suffered while fielding during the second T20I match in Lauderhill, Florida. The 35-year-old player will not be available for the third T20I and the full three-match ODI series to be played in Trinidad.

Hamstring Injury Occurred During Fielding

The injury came in the 19th over of the West Indies’ innings, as Fakhar was running across the outfield to cut off a boundary. He halted in apparent pain and was subjected to a medical assessment. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed afterwards that he had suffered a mild left hamstring strain.

Immediate Treatment and Return to Pakistan

After the incident, Fakhar was given immediate first aid by the support staff of the team. The PCB stated that Fakhar Zaman will return to Pakistan on August 4, immediately after the last T20I. He will undergo rehabilitation at the PCB’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore under the guidance of the medical team.

No Replacement Announced Yet

So far, the PCB has not appointed a stand-in for Fakhar Zaman in the ODI team. In the third T20I, Khushdil Shah was picked for the playing XI against Fakhar.

Fakhar’s Performance in the Series

Even though he showed promise, Fakhar Zaman was unable to translate starts into large scores, scoring 28 and 20 in the first two T20Is. The team will miss him hard as they get set to play the 50-over series.

Recurring Injury Issues for Fakhar Zaman

This injury is a repeat of a comparable hamstring problem Fakhar had in the Champions Trophy early this year. On that day, he had been injured while running after a ball off the second delivery of the match and was kept out of the tournament the following day. Ironically, Fakhar had joined the team as a cover for Saim Ayub, who also got injured running after a boundary in South Africa.

Series Update: PAK vs WI T20Is Evenly Poised

The PAK vs WI T20I series stands at 1-1, with the third and decisive T20I to be played before the teams travel to Trinidad for the ODIs.
