Day Nine of the 2021 US Open witnessed Canada’s Felix Auger Aliassime advancing into the Men’s Singles semi-final as Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz retires.
The 12th seed, Canada’s Felix Auger Aliassime moves ahead into the next round i.e., the semi-final as the 18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz from Spain retires from the match due to a leg injury.
The Spanish teenager was trailing 6-3, 3-1 while he announced that he could not continue to play. The match lasted for about 1 hour and eight minutes on Tuesday night at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
As a result, the 21-year-old Felix Auger Aliassime reached his first-ever Grand Slam semi-final via a walkover.
However, Carlos Alcaraz had an overall good tournament as he clinched a huge victory in the 3rd Round when he defeated the 3rd seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in five sets.
Whereas, Felix set a few milestones by advancing to the Semis. He became the first Canadian man to reach the US Open singles semi-finals in tournament history.
Felix also became the youngest male player to advance to the last four at the US Open since 2009, when the Argentine Juan Martín del Potro became champion.
As a result, the Canadian will next face the 2nd seed from Russia Daniil Medvedev in the Men’s Singles Semi-final at the 2021 US Open on 11th September, Saturday.
