The 2025 FIBA Asia Cup will be the 31st edition of the Asian basketball championship organized by FIBA Asia. The tournament is scheduled for 5 August and aims to conclude on 17 August in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The tournament will feature a total of 16 teams and the qualification process began in June 2022.
Saudi Arabia automatically qualified for the competition being the host nation, and 30 other teams competed for the remaining 15 spots where India has taken over the last spot by beating Bahrain in an exciting match that took place on Saturday. This was the nation’s second victory in Group of the final qualifying tournament having beaten Iraq previously in a group match on Friday.
This victory also became India’s 11th consecutive appearance in Asia Cup since 2001 showcasing their domination in the FIBA Asia Cup. Some of the key players in the winning match were Harsh Dagar who scored 28 points, Arvind Krishnan, and Pranav Prince who helped maintain India their lead despite a challenging game.
India has had a long history of participation in the FIBA Asia Cup as the men’s basketball team has qualified for the tournament 26 times throughout history, making it one of the top five teams in terms of appearance in the tournament.
However, the haven’t won the tournament even once yet, narrowingly missing it several times, especially in 1975, when they finished at the fourth place, which is also their best performance yet in the FIBA Asia Cup. Whether or not India is able to convert their qualification into a decisive win in the tournament, only time will tell. But we will keep you updated, so stay tuned.
