FIBA EuroLeague Women Awards 2024-25: Meet The Shortlisted Candidates So Far

The FIBA has announced candidates for the EuroLeague Women awards for the 2024-25 season. 

The winners of the awards will be decided by combining the votes of EuroLeague Women coaches, team captains, selected media and the fans.

The categories for the 2024-25 EuroLeague Women Awards are as follows:

  • EuroLeague Women Most Valuable Player
  • All-EuroLeague Women First Team
  • All-EuroLeague Women Second Team
  • EuroLeague Women Coach of the Year
  • EuroLeague Women Young Player of the Year
  • EuroLeague Women Defensive Player of the Year

So far, finalists for three categories have been revealed.

They are all looking to land the accolade after finishing in the top three of voting conducted by EuroLeague Women coaches, players, selected media and the fans.

The winners of the EuroLeague Women Awards will be announced at special ceremony at EuroLeague Women Final Six in Zaragoza, Spain on Saturday, April 12.

Here are the finalists in three categories for EuroLeague Women awards:

Young Player of the Year Award

Iyana Martin Carrion, Leila Lacan and Matilde Villa have all been revealed as finalists for the EuroLeague Women Young Player of the Year Award.

This season, players born in 2003 and later were eligible for the award.

Coach of the Year 

Ruben Burgos, Georgios Dikaioulakos and Valerie Garnier have been announced as this year’s finalists for the EuroLeague Women Coach of the Year Award.

Ruben Burgos has already delivered a best-ever finish in the competition by taking Valencia Basket Club to the Semi-Finals. A spot in the last four is also something being chased by Beretta Famila Schio head coach Georgios Dikaioulakos, who claimed the award in 2023.

On the other hand, Valerie Garnier won the competition last year and her Fenerbahce Opet team are still undefeated this year and favorites to win the crown again.

Defensive Player of the Year

Yvonne Anderson, Mariona Ortiz and Gabby Williams have been shortlisted as the finalists for the EuroLeague Women Defensive Player of the Year Award.

CIMSA CBK Mersin floor general Anderson is aiming back-to-back awards in this category, while Fenerbahce Opet forward Williams won it four years ago when wearing a Sopron jersey.

 Spanish guard Mariona Ortiz is looking to become a first-time winner after an impressive campaign with Casademont Zaragoza.
