FIFA World Cup 2022: Belgium Most Promising Players for the Future
The 26-player line-up for Belgium’s 2022 World Cup team has been revealed, and coach Roberto Martinez is confident that they will finally reach their full potential and win glory in Qatar.

Belgium is in Group F at the World Cup in Qatar and will compete against Canada, Croatia, and Morocco. Belgium must pass these challenging criteria if they are to have any chance of competing in the final on December 18. The ultimate goal for Belgium is triumph in the FIFA World Cup 2022.
When Roberto Martinez took over for Marc Wilmots, who had been eliminated from the Euro 2016 tournament by a Cruyff move from Hal Robson-Kanu and a thunderous header from Sam Vokes, Martinez’s message was clear: Belgium could win the FIFA World Cup with this collection of players.
Thibaut Courtois

Position: Goalkeeper
Age: 30
The Belgian goalie is at the top of his game. He and teammate Eden Hazard joined a select group of Belgians who have won Europe’s most prestigious club competition when they assisted Real Madrid in winning the UEFA Champions League trophy at the end of the previous campaign. These individuals include Eric Gerets, Daniel Van Buyten, Thomas Vermaelen, Divock Origi, and Simon Mignolet.
The Golden Glove Award is given to the competition’s top goalkeeper. The Lev Yashin Award was first presented in 1994, and in 2010 it underwent a renaming. The competition for the Belgium No. 1 jersey has been eliminated by Courtois, who was in exceptional form for Los Merengues last season.
Jan Vertonghen
Position: Centre-back
Age: 35
Vertonghen has played for Belgium for fifteen years and has earned a record-breaking 139 caps. He is the lynchpin of the Red Devils’ rear-guard and remains as dedicated and driven as ever despite being well into his 30s. The vice-captain of Belgium believes he is back to his best physically and mentally now that he is playing club football for Benfica.
That’s fortunate since Vertonghen’s experience will be needed by coach Martinez in Qatar in 2022 and probably afterwards. The centre-back, who obviously still has much to give, added, “I don’t know if I can keep playing till, I’m 40, but I’m going to continue for as long as I feel up to it.”
Axel Witsel
Position: Midfielder
Age: 33
The tireless midfielder moved from Borussia Dortmund to Atletico Madrid this summer, where he will play a key role in Diego Simeone’s plans. Witsel is another mainstay with the Red Devils who has consistently delivered at every club he has represented.
The metronomic Witsel is his country’s second-most-capped player ever with 124 appearances under his belt. Martinez values him for his versatility, his rapport with Youri Tielemans, as well as his technique and ball-winning abilities.
Kevin De Bruyne
Position: Midfielder
Age: 31
What else can be said about KDB? De Bruyne scored a career-high 15 Premier League goals last season while playing in royal form for Manchester City, earning him his fourth English Premier League championship gold with the team. In the league’s Team of the Year, the Belgian wizard was an easy choice for one of the midfield positions.
De Bruyne is one of Belgium’s most seasoned players and is completely indispensable with it, having earned 91 caps. He is also one of the team’s great crowd-pleasers, along with Hazard. I’ll keep playing for the Red Devils until at least EURO 2024, De Bruyne said to the daily Het Laatste Nieuws, proving that he hasn’t retired yet as well.
Romelu Lukaku
Position: Striker
Age: 29
For Chelsea, the strong front man had a mediocre season, starting just 17 games and spending the majority of his time on the bench. He moved to Inter Milan recently, and the supporters there have embraced him with wide arms as Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022 approaches.
Also, a fan favourite among Red Devils followers is Lukaku. He is the top goal scorer in the nation’s history with 68 goals in 102 games. He is the sixth player from Belgium to reach 100 caps, joining Vertonghen, Witsel, Toby Alderweireld, Hazard, and Dries Mertens. If Hazard, De Bruyne, and Lukaku score in Qatar, the Belgian assault will be formidable.
