The 2026 FIFA World Cup is not just bringing major changes on the pitch. FIFA is also preparing something completely different off it, with three separate opening ceremonies planned across the host nations for the first time in tournament history.
Instead of one global opening event, Mexico, Canada, and the United States will each stage their own ceremony before their opening matches. The celebrations are expected to combine football, music, live performances, and large-scale stadium productions as the tournament begins across North America.
The opening events are scheduled for June 11 and June 12, while FIFA is also reportedly planning additional celebrations later in the competition tied to America’s 250th anniversary.
Mexico To Host The First Opening Ceremony
The FIFA World Cup officially begins on June 11 at the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, where Mexico will face South Africa.
FIFA reportedly plans to begin the ceremony around 90 minutes before kickoff, with the event expected to focus heavily on Mexican culture and music.
Several major artists are expected to perform, including:
- Maná
- Alejandro Fernández
- Belinda
- Los Ángeles Azules
- Tyla
Estadio Azteca already holds huge importance in football history, having hosted legendary World Cup moments in the past, and FIFA appears determined to make the 2026 opener feel equally memorable.

Canada’s Historic Home FIFA World Cup Match
The celebrations then move to Toronto on June 12, where Canada will play Bosnia & Herzegovina in the country’s first-ever men’s FIFA World Cup match on home soil.
The artist lineup for the Canadian ceremony reportedly includes:
- Michael Bublé
- Alanis Morissette
- Alessia Cara
- Jessie Reyez
- Nora Fatehi
- William Prince
- Elyanna
- Vegedream
- DJ Sanjoy
Like the other ceremonies, the event is expected to start roughly 90 minutes before kickoff and will reportedly highlight Canada’s multicultural identity through music and visuals.
United States Planning Massive Entertainment Showcase
Later that same day, the United States will open its tournament against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium near Los Angeles.
FIFA is reportedly treating the American ceremony as one of the biggest entertainment productions of the tournament, with a lineup featuring:
- Katy Perry
- Future
- Anitta
- Lisa
- Rema
- Tyla
The overall presentation is expected to feel closer to a Super Bowl-style event, with large-scale visuals, celebrity appearances, and live performances built around the opening match.
More Celebrations Planned During The Tournament
FIFA is also preparing special “America 250” themed tributes during two Round of 16 matches on July 4 in Philadelphia and Houston as part of celebrations marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium on July 19 is also expected to feature another major ceremony and halftime show, although the performers for that event have not been announced yet.
FIFA has additionally confirmed two songs linked to the official World Cup 2026 album:
- Illuminate by Jessie Reyez and Elyanna
- Por Ella by Los Ángeles Azules and Belinda
With three separate opening ceremonies, global music stars, and events spread across North America, the 2026 FIFA World Cup already looks set to become one of the biggest entertainment spectacles football has ever produced.
