Florian Wirtz Signs For Liverpool: Liverpool’s transfer window just went turbo. After the arrival of Milos Kerkez, the Reds have now completed the blockbuster signing of German playmaker Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. And no, this isn’t just another midfield signing, this one’s a generational baller with silverware in his DNA and fire in his boots.

Florian Wirtz Signs For Liverpool
The 22-year-old becomes Liverpool’s second summer signing and has penned a long-term deal at Anfield. After sealing the move, Wirtz was all smiles and ambition, telling the club’s official website:
“I feel very happy and very proud. Finally it’s done and I was waiting for a long time – finally it’s done and I am really happy. I’m really excited to have a new adventure in front of me. This was also a big point of my thoughts: that I want to have something completely new, to go out of the Bundesliga and to join the Premier League. Last season they won the Premier League so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. I’m really ambitious. I’m not coming [to] have fun here, I want also to achieve something and give the fans what they deserve.”
From Wunderkind to World-Class: Wirtz’s Journey So Far
Wirtz was born in Pulheim, Germany on 3 May 2003 and began his footballing journey at FC Köln’s academy in 2010. At just 16, he made the jump to Bayer Leverkusen and the rest, as they say, is highlight reel history.

- Debut at 17 years and 15 days – youngest Bundesliga player in Leverkusen’s history, surpassing Kai Havertz.
- Scored vs Bayern just three weeks later – youngest Bundesliga goalscorer at 17 years and 34 days at the time.
- Central figure in Leverkusen’s invincible 2023/24 Bundesliga-winning side.
- Also won the DFB-Pokal and reached the UEFA Europa League final, losing only once all season (to Atalanta).
- 197 appearances for Leverkusen: 57 goals and 65 assists.
International Credentials? Oh, He’s Got Those Too
Wirtz has already become a staple for the Germany national team. He made his senior debut at just 18 and has since been capped 31 times. He played key roles as Germany reached the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2024 and the semi-finals of the 2025 UEFA Nations League.
With Liverpool’s midfield now bursting with creativity and composure, Wirtz could be the cherry on top of Arne Slot’s tactical sundae. One thing’s for sure, this lad didn’t come to make up the numbers. As he said himself, he’s here to deliver trophies and delight the Kop.
